STEM CAMPAIGN
Atlanta CARES has launched a TEN Year STEM Campaign to provide opportunities for middle and high school students to engage in hands on STEM activities, explore STEM careers, and interact with STEM professionals.
STEMfest is an annual event that kicked-off our STEM Campaign at Georgia Tech. Approximately 350 students from Metro Atlanta have convened at Georgia Tech for the past seven years to participate in STEM workshops including artificial intelligence, forensics science, aeronautics, micro biology, architecture, zoology, and STEM tinkering activities. As we approach our Eighth Annual STEMfest Youth Conference on January 9, 2021, a virtual event due to COVID-19, we are seeking to empower youth who are approaching post-secondary studies with access to recruitment, collegiate scholarships, and internship opportunities in the STEM disciplines. This year's theme will focus on STEM discovery, innovation, and entrepreneurship wherein the students will learn strategies to commercialize their ideas. As always, STEMfest will be a STEMulating experience!
The STEM Campaign also includes a STEM summer learning opportunity through our annual STEM EnRICH Summer Academy at Morehouse College where youth participate in a three week ultimate camp experience. The STEM classes include Robotics, Apps Design, Virtual Reality, Cyber Security, Engineering, Filmmaking, and Music and Coding and Authorship 101. Weekly field trips to local STEM related museums and corporations provide opportunities for the students to gain exposure to a variety of STEM artifacts and careers.
Atlanta CARES seeks the collaboration of corporate, community and college and university leaders to support our STEM Campaign. As we target and prepare underrepresented, underserved, and under resourced youth in our communities for STEM careers, we will undoubtedly change their trajectories and create generational wealth for their families and the generations to come.
