Atlanta CARES has launched a TEN Year STEM Campaign to provide opportunities for middle and high school students to engage in hands on STEM activities, explore STEM careers, and interact with STEM professionals.
STEMfest is an annual youth conference that kicked-off the TEN YEAR STEM Campaign at Georgia Tech. Approximately 350 students from Metro Atlanta have convened at Georgia Tech for the past five years to participate in STEM workshops and STEM tinkering activities. As we approach our Seventh Annual STEMfest conference on January 11, 2020, at Georgia Tech, we are seeking to empower youth who are approaching post-secondary studies with access to recruitment, collegiate scholarships, and internship opportunities. To further support our goals and expand our mission, we have added the STEA²M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Agriculture, Math) Seminar Series: Preparing the Next Generation for College and Careers, which will be hosted on the campus of local colleges including Atlanta Technical College, The Atlanta College of Art and Design (SCAD), and Morehouse College. The goal of the seminars is to familiarize our youth with the higher institution’s STEM career options, admissions process, funding sources, and leadership opportunities.
The Atlanta CARES STEM Campaign also includes a STEM summer learning opportunity through our annual STEM EnRICH Summer Academy at Morehouse College. Students participate in three weeks of classes including Virtual Reality, Apps Design, Filmmaking,
Engineering, Life Science, Drone Aviation , Music and Coding, and Authorship 101.
Atlanta CARES seeks the collaboration of corporate, community and college and university leaders to support our STEM Campaign. As we target and prepare underrepresented, underserved, and under resourced youth in our communities for STEM careers, we will undoubtedly change their trajectories and create generational wealth for their families and the generations to come.
